European Wildlife Photographer Of The Year Awards 2016

Over the weekend I returned from an award ceremony in Germany and I am very pleased to announce that I was awarded with my image ‘Beauty, Power, Majesty’. This is a highly creative and innovative wildlife photography competition and to be awarded in two successive years is a huge privilege.

Story behind the shot: Lions are often portrayed as powerful hunters. I was looking to compose an image that demonstrated the beauty of the largest cat in Africa. By waiting for this Lion to walk close enough to me, I focused on the large cats eye as he looked back towards the light. This gave the contrast I needed in the image to highlight the details on the lions head, leaving the intricacy of the mane to be seen in the shadows.

Latest Images And Assignments:

  • One of my goals for this year was to take a simple and aesthetic image of a Badger in the daylight. I spent much of the summer working with setts around Devon, Somerset, Buckinghamshire and Dumfries with pleasing results.
  • I have recently returned from leading my annual photographic safari to Kafue National Park in Zambia. We had a superb trip and the full blog is now live on the website for you to see some of the best moments from the trip:
  • My October Kingfisher Photography Workshops were a success with both days having superb lighting conditions. This particular shot was taken just as the sun was dipping below the horizon lighting up the Kingfisher as he sat on the reed-mace. Thank you to everyone that came along and I am pleased that you achieved such great images.
  • Alongside the Kingfisher Workshops, I have also been running my Red Deer Photography Days under the licence of Richmond Park. We experienced a variety of weather conditions from heavy rain to beautiful mist and the rut was in full autumnal swing.

Upcoming events

Once again I am looking forward to exhibiting at the Windsor Contemporary Art Show on 12th and 13th November 2016. Here there will be over 150 of Europe’s best independent artists and galleries on display. Championing some of the most exciting art in the Europe, the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair is where you can meet and get to know award-winning and emerging artists.

I will be exhibiting some of my latest pieces. If you are looking for a unique gift for Christmas or looking for a centre piece for your home it would be great to see you at the show.

If you would like to visit the show, I have 2 for 1 tickets on a first come first serve basis, so please email to register your interest.

Beginners Workshop

My Beginners Workshops to Wildlife Photography in 2016 were very well attended and therefore I will be running these again in 2017.

If you are a keen photographer and would like to get to grips with the basics of wildlife photography, this day may be of interest to you. I will be covering the basic settings you will need to achieve stunning wildlife imagery, discussing the importance of foregrounds and backgrounds, working with different lighting conditions and also giving you advice regarding different processing techniques.

The dates available for 2017 and full details can be found here on my website via this link. If you have any questions regarding this workshop, please do not hesitate to contact me:

Red Fox Photography

You may recall that in my Summer newsletter I commented on how fantastic this year has been in the Red Fox Hide. This year the foxes seem to be incredibly bold and consistent with upwards of 4 cubs visiting the meadow every evening with around 2 or 3 adults.

The foxes have been equally as active through the Autumn and I have recently released new hide dates for 2017. If you would like to take your own images of wild Red Foxes then I have a variety of dates throughout next Spring and Summer on my website. For full details and selection of dates for this hide rental, please click on the link below:

Bird Of Prey Workshop

Based in Gloucestershire, I run a one day workshop where you will be able to capture images of an array of birds of prey and owls from Buzzards to Eagle Owls, and from Barn Owls to Little Owls. In this captive environment, this day gives the opportunity to really get to grips with your camera. I will be on hand to ensure that you have plenty of time to learn the best settings for wildlife photography situations, talk about composition, shutter speeds, apertures and ISO whilst the falconer positions and flies the birds in the most aesthetic areas and natural environments.

I have places left for next years Spring Workshop. If you are interesting in joining this day please click on the link below for full workshop details:

If you do have any questions regarding any of these Workshops Or Tours then please do not hesitate to get in contact with me via email: or via phone: 07876 333787
